More than 50 years ago, members of three churches in Manipur, India, teamed up to start and build the Manipur School by hand. They wanted their children to receive an Adventist education. Over the years, this school has experienced many challenges, but the dedication of the parents and teachers has kept it going.

Today, the school has 280+ students from kindergarten through 10th grade. It is the only Adventist school in a valley with 22 villages.

Jesus for Asia has joined Dennis and Judy Skandunas to help the ministry of this school in two main areas:

Food and Teachers’ Salaries: Most of the students come from low-income families, and they are not always able to pay their school fees. The administrators use their resources to provide basic meals of rice and lentils, but not much extra. When students’ families can’t pay their fees, the money often runs out before the teachers can be paid. Still, the teachers continue serving because they believe in the school’s mission and the work God is doing there.

It costs $40 a month (average) per student to pay for school expenses.

Building up the School: The Manipur School has developed a positive reputation for teaching its students to follow God. Many parents want to send their children there, but the school needs more space and better facilities.

The first floor of a planned multi-story classroom building was dedicated in 2022. Young people study in these classrooms every day, but they are not yet finished. Bunches of rebar tower over the building, waiting to become concrete pillars for the second story. The present classrooms have no doors or windows. We want to finish out the second story and add a large two-story addition at the end to accommodate the cafeteria, dining hall, library, and teachers’ offices. The total cost is estimated at $230,000.

The current septic and water systems are woefully inadequate and create major health risks. Water for drinking and showering is carried from the river and piped from a nearby pond, both unclean sources. A properly drilled well and a plumbing system for potable water are essential for meeting basic sanitation, cooking, and drinking needs. The estimated cost for these renovations is $25,000 to $30,000.

Other needs include a security fence and additional dormitory space.

Your partnership today can make possible:

  • A proper septic system and clean water supply

  • Second floor for more classrooms

  • Dormitories where students don’t have to share beds

  • A real cafeteria to replace the mud courtyard

  • A security fence for peace of mind

SHARE these amazing outreach opportunities with friends and family.
