From Conflict to Christ: Sudhir & Aljina's Story

Over the past two months, by God's grace, I’ve visited 54 families—31 of them non-Christian. I'd like to share the story of one such family: Sudhir and Aljina.

One morning, while praying about where to go, I felt impressed to visit the village of Dansibad. When I arrived, I stopped at a small shop to buy some chocolate. There, a young man named Sudhir recognized me and asked, “Pastor, where are you going today?”

“I’ve come to visit this village,” I replied. To my surprise, he said, “My wife and I were just talking about you. Please come to our house.”

I gladly followed him. His wife, Aljina, welcomed me warmly, offered me a seat and some water, and told me they were doing very well. She said, “The things you explained to my husband with love, he understood, and he has changed his ways.”

Let me go back and explain how I first met Sudhir and Aljina.

Sudhir used to drink heavily and would often come home and fight with his wife. One day, as they were walking home from the market, they were arguing on the road. I happened to be walking home from the market as well. Seeing them fighting, I stopped to speak with them. I promised to visit them the next day.

When I went to their home and sat down with Sudhir, I talked to him about his drinking.

“Sudhir,” I said, “I want to ask you a question.”

“What is it?” he replied.

“Tell me just one benefit of drinking alcohol. If you can name even one, I won’t try to stop you from drinking today.”

He paused, then admitted, “There’s no benefit.”

“If you care about your family’s future, stop drinking—starting today.”

With love, I explained: “Alcohol will ruin your health, destroy your relationship with your wife, cloud your thinking, and tear apart your home. If you care about your family’s future, stop drinking—starting today.”

I then prayed with them and left. Those words touched them deeply, and Sudhir stopped drinking.

Now, during this recent visit, the couple shared the news that they’ve decided to become Christians. That’s why they had wanted me to come. Their joy brought joy to my own heart.

They are now regularly attending church. I am studying the Bible with them and preparing them for baptism.

Please pray for Sudhir and Aljina, that they will fully accept Jesus and receive salvation.
