A Mother's Prayers Answered: A Philippines Bible Worker Story
Mrs. Jaime watched as a thick cloud of smoke swirled before her. It was coming her way like it was trying to swallow her whole. Mrs Jaime knew that if it caught up to her, she would surely die. Terrified, she cried out a name she had not called upon for a long, long time.
Mrs. Jaime was born into a mixed-religion family in the Philippines. Her mother was a faithful Seventh-day Adventist, but her father was not. Growing up, Mrs. Jaime attended church with her mother every Sabbath, but she started to slip away when she grew older. She decided to go to college in a big city and began living a worldly life. Eventually, she got a job that required her to work on Sabbaths.
Whenever she considered going back to church, she got promoted at work and became thoroughly distracted from following God. During all this time, Mrs Jaime's mom never stopped praying for her.
Mrs. Jaime moved to Dubai, hoping for even more success, which she achieved. Later, she married a non-SDA man and had three sons. She tried to enjoy all the worldly pleasures, but her conscience often pricked her as she thought about her mother's prayers.
Recently, at 54 years old, she had a distinct and frightening dream. As the smoke threatened to engulf her, she screamed out, "Jesus!" Immediately, she awoke, her heart pounding rapidly in her chest. She knelt down and started to pray.
After this experience, Mrs. Jaime (who had returned to the Philippines) started looking for a nearby Adventist church. During her search, she connected with a JFA Bible Worker named Jowel. He has been doing Bible studies with Mrs. Jaime and her family, and she and at least some of her family have been coming to church, all because her mother did not stop praying for her daughter and her family. Please pray that Mrs. Jaime's whole family will choose to follow Jesus.
Though we cannot see it, we all have a dark cloud seeking to consume us. The enemy of souls "does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy," but we do not have to let him. No matter where we are in life, we can, like Mrs. Jaime, call upon the name of Jesus, who came "so that [we] may have life, and that (we] may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). His light and love, through the gift of His sacrifice, can overcome all the darkness and quench the fiery darts of the enemy.
For those of you whose loved ones have walked away from Jesus, keep praying! Mrs. Jaime's mother prayed for her daughter for many years before she received her answer, and though it didn't always look like it, God was working in Mrs. Jaime's heart the entire time. God can do the same for your loved ones.
