Prayer Prevails Against Snake Venom

Fear overwhelmed Sonmoni’s heart as she rode with her husband in the back of a vehicle, rushing to a hospital in India. While working together in the field to provide a meager living for themselves and their four children, a venomous snake bit Sonmoni’s husband. She and others nearby immediately stepped into action to help her husband, but would they make it to the doctor on time? 

When they finally arrived, the doctor seemed to confirm her worst fears, but then, he offered a sliver of hope. The doctor administered antivenom to her husband but told her that, scientifically speaking, too much time had already passed for it to work effectively. 

“Only God can save your husband,” the doctor told Sonmoni. He told her she should pray for him. Sonmoni knew nothing about prayer or God, but she was desperate. She asked one of her friends to find someone who could pray for her husband. 

Providentially, Sonmoni’s friend found Pradeep, a JFA Bible Worker, and asked him for help. Pradeep came to Sonmoni’s home and held prayer sessions with the family in the morning, afternoon, and evening. God heard their prayers, and after a few days, Sonmoni’s husband recovered from his deadly affliction. 

Sonmoni is so thankful to God for saving her husband’s life. Her faith has increased. After she started attending church and took Bible studies, she was baptized. However, her husband is not yet ready for baptism because of his family’s disapproval. 

Sonmoni has faith that one day, her husband and children will all accept Jesus Christ as God, but she requests prayer on their behalf.

We praise the Lord for connecting Pradeep with Sonmoni’s family during their time of greatest need. Please continue to keep him and his fellow workers in prayer, as well as those, like Sonmoni’s family, whom they serve.
