Healing for Body and Soul

The following story was written by one of our newest Bible Workers, who is serving in a sensitive country. Though we cannot share everything we wish about ministry in countries whose governments are unfriendly to the Gospel, we hope you are blessed by this small glimpse into the powerful ways God is working there.

Recently, a very dear friend came to visit me. She had just returned from a Jesus for Asia training, where she had learned more about prayer, and arrived full of faith and enthusiasm. On her way back home, she prayed, asking God to show her someone she could intercede for regarding healing.

Traffic was heavy, and the bus ended up taking a detour. On this new route, my friend saw a woman walking hunched over, clearly in pain. Immediately, she felt the Holy Spirit guiding her to pray for that person. The woman’s name was Khadija*. My friend prayed with faith, and the next day, Khadija shared that she had felt some improvement.

Later, we discovered that Khadija lived only one block away from my house! My friend clearly saw the hand of God in this. She approached Khadija and started talking. The healing, however, was not yet complete. It was then that my friend, still inspired by the training, encouraged me to continue praying for her. She reminded me of the promise in Isaiah 53:5: “by His wounds we are healed.”

During that week, I felt God caring for me in such real ways: providing, guiding, and showing His love in the details. With a heart full of faith, I invited Khadija to meet so I could pray over her.

I confessed to her that I had never prayed for healing before. I always believed that God could heal, but I was afraid to pray for it. I told her that I had no power myself, but that I trusted in Jesus, because I know He is the one who performs miracles.

So, we prayed.

After the prayer, Khadija said she felt lighter. In that moment, the Holy Spirit put a question in my heart, and I asked aloud:

“Khadija, what are you angry about?”

“Several things,” she replied. From there, we spent hours talking. We discussed forgiveness, past wounds, reconciliation, and areas of character that God wanted to transform.

Today, I understand that what God is doing goes far beyond physical healing. He is healing Khadija’s heart, and mine too. Jesus is restoring, setting free, and teaching us to trust Him in a new way.

We are in the process of healing, body, soul, and spirit. And I can joyfully testify: Jesus continues to heal.

“Remember that the restoration of the body prepares the way for the restoration of the soul.”  —EG White, Medical Ministry, 240.”

Please pray for Khadija to understand how God is working on her behalf and to fully experience that restoration and salvation Jesus is offering to her. May she become a light to spread Jesus' love to those around her.
