Boys Transformed by Evening Schools

In their own words* two Evening School students share their testimonies of the impact JFA Evening Schools have had on their lives.
My name is Immanuel. I am 12 years old, and I come from a Christian family. I am in the sixth grade. Since we are from a poor background, I am studying in a government school.
My father is a drunken man. He does not take proper care of our house. Since my mother works as a daily laborer, it is very tough for my mother to run our family.
The JFA Evening School has been very useful to me. I come to the classes daily.
I was very weak in English and Math, but after coming to the Evening School, I have learned good lessons.
The teachers taught me good habits. Initially, I used to steal money for any of my needs. But after coming to the class, the teacher taught me not to steal money; it is a sin.
I have totally stopped telling lies. The teacher taught me good stories in the Bible. There is a God; He looks at everybody. I pray for my father and mother. My father hears all the words I say to him.
I thank God for giving me this tutoring and good teachers. They have helped me a lot to change my character.
Nitish's Story

My name is Nitish. I am 13 years old, and I am studying in eighth grade. My sister, Yalini, is ten years old, and she is in the seventh grade.
My father’s name is Mural; he is a painter, and my mother’s name is Monisha. My father is a very dangerous man. He will sell anything that he finds in his house to have his drugs. He always fights with my mother to give him money for drinks.
We live in a slum area. We do not have a good house. Mosquitos bite us during the night.
One day, a church pastor visited our house and talked with my parents. He asked them about our education and told them about an Evening School where I could receive free tutoring. My mother and father were both very happy to send me.
After coming to the Evening School, I was very happy because it was like a hell to stay in my home, where my father drinks and manhandles my mother.
The teachers teach us all the subjects: English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, and Language. They taught us good habits, such as keeping clean fingernails, cutting our nails, taking a daily bath, and brushing our teeth.
They taught us not to chew tobacco because it may lead to cancer. I have taught my grandmother not to have this habit.
I have also learned that there is a God in heaven. He will hear our prayers, and when we ask God, He will give everything for us.
I now have a daily habit. When I wake up in the morning, I will pray and help my mother with her cooking.
Yes, after joining this Evening School, I am very happy. I also enjoy learning new songs and stories.
I am very happy to attend the church every Saturday. It is like a festival. I thank God for providing this Evening School class. It is very useful for me.
